The Workplace Relations Commission found that Paula Hoare was unfairly dismissed and awarded her €18,000 compensation. The decision was dated 24 January 2023.
Hoare worked as a catering assistant and was later promoted to Commis Chef. After the restaurant business was sold to The Inn Scene Limited t/a The Jockeys, she said her role and shifts changed. She raised concerns about her working conditions and gave one week’s notice, but the adjudication officer found she was dismissed during that notice period when told to leave.
The respondent did not attend the resumed hearing, so the WRC heard Hoare’s sworn evidence. It found that her employer’s behaviour was unreasonable and that she was unfairly dismissed. Hoare provided evidence of applications to ten employers and two temporary jobs; the WRC set compensation at €18,000.
Hoare withdrew her separate complaint under transfer-of-undertakings regulations at the hearing.
