The Workplace Relations Commission found Linda Maguire was not unfairly dismissed by Tesco Ireland Limited after an investigation into €30 left by a customer at a self-scan till and a scratch card she took before paying. Maguire denied taking the money and said she paid for the card during her break. The WRC found her explanations inconsistent and not credible, and found she accepted taking the scratch card before her break without paying for it then. It concluded that dismissal for serious misconduct fell within the range of reasonable responses. It also found she was not entitled to notice because she was dismissed for serious misconduct. The decision was dated 11 October 2022.
