WRC had no jurisdiction over Thomas Arkins Junior’s unfair dismissal complaint against World 2000 Entertainment Limited

The Workplace Relations Commission had no jurisdiction to hear Thomas Arkins Junior’s unfair dismissal complaint against World 2000 Entertainment Limited because the wrong respondent was named. The WRC found that Metropolitan Films International Limited was his employer, but the complaint named a separate legal entity. The merits of the unfair dismissal complaint were not decided. Arkins said he was not offered work when production resumed in December 2019 and believed this was because of his membership of the Irish Film Workers’ Association. World 2000 Entertainment Limited argued that he had not been its employee. The WRC found the complaint was within the time limit but could not proceed against the named respondent. The decision was dated 19 February 2024.
