The Workplace Relations Commission found Adrian Caulfield’s discrimination complaint against New Frontiers, Athlone Institute of Technology (now Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest), not well founded. The decision was dated 8 April 2024.

Caulfield alleged disability discrimination over a workshop and his exclusion from a training programme’s second phase, as well as a failure to accommodate his disability. He also alleged religious discrimination after a programme manager offered participants a lift home. The respondent said admission to the second phase was competitive and based on set criteria.

The officer accepted that Caulfield’s supplemental application material was not considered and called that unfair, but found no evidence that the omission was because of his disability. The officer also found no specific request for accommodation and concluded that the lift offer did not amount to adverse treatment on religious grounds. The religious allegation was dismissed as misconceived, vexatious and frivolous.
