The WRC found against seven members of a Traveller family on claims against a government department over reimbursement for an emergency overnight stay after they did not attend the hearing; the merits were not decided. The decision was dated 24 April 2023.
The family alleged race and Traveller-community discrimination and harassment after the department refused reimbursement for one night in emergency accommodation. The WRC found that the officials named in the complaint worked for a government department and substituted the department as respondent. None of the complainants attended the hearing, and no evidence was presented. The WRC concluded its investigation and found against them.
