WRC rejects production manager’s disability discrimination complaint against radio station

By Aoife Loughran

Workplace Relations Commission ·

A production manager’s disability discrimination complaint against a radio station failed, the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) found. The decision was dated 8 February 2017.

The worker said her sick pay was stopped because her disability was mental rather than physical. The radio station said its policy provided 20 days’ sick pay and that she had received 31 days.

The WRC found that the worker had a disability but had not established a case of discrimination. The officer found she knew about the sick pay scheme, which provided 20 days, and that the station had not changed it. The worker also did not substantiate her claims that discretion had been used to pay other employees more than 20 days, or that the station treated mental and physical disabilities differently. The complaint failed, and no compensation was ordered.
