In 1996, the Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal over her dismissal by Power Supermarkets Ltd, upholding the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that her compensation claim fail. The decision was dated 11 June 1996. She had worked at Quinnsworth Supermarket on Upper Baggot Street for three days when she was involved in an altercation with another staff member. She did not attend a disciplinary meeting on 8 February 1995, and the company terminated her employment on 20 February. Her union argued that she had not received notice of the meeting because the correspondence was incorrectly addressed. The company said it had written to the address on her application form.
