The Labour Court found a claim for compensation over the loss of subsidised petrol was not well founded and did not recommend it be conceded. The recommendation, in the dispute between Tegral Building Products Limited and the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union, was dated 7 June 1996. The union said cost-price petrol had been part of the workers’ employment terms since 1972 and sought compensation after the facility closed. Tegral said the arrangement was informal and that it had not replaced a damaged pump because of planning and fire-safety rules.
