The Labour Court rejected Murrays Europcar’s appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation for a £15-a-week pay increase for a mechanic. The decision was signed on 7 November 1995. The Automobile, General Engineering and Mechanical Operatives’ Union said the mechanic was underpaid by about £28 a week compared with mechanics at a sister company. Murrays Europcar said its car-rental business and the sister company’s retail and repair outlet operated in different parts of the industry.
