The Labour Court rejected a worker's appeal and upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that Irish Ferries Limited (B & I Line) pay £500 as a goodwill settlement over travelling expenses. The decision was signed on 26 June 1995. The Rights Commissioner had found the company was entitled to end a £15 weekly payment but recommended the £500 goodwill settlement in light of the circumstances. The Seamen's Union Of Ireland argued the weekly payment had been agreed and that the worker had incurred considerable expenses. Irish Ferries said the payment was in lieu of overnight expenses and described travel arrangements available to staff attending vessels. The Labour Court found the recommendation reasonable and upheld it.
