Labour Court raises Coastguard Restaurant dismissal compensation to £500

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court upheld a worker’s appeal, increased compensation from £350 to £500 and found that the manner of her dismissal was unfair in a decision signed on 10 March 1995. The original Rights Commissioner recommendation was amended, replacing the £350 settlement with £500. The worker said she had been hired as an assistant manageress, while the restaurant said she was unsuitable as a supervisor and cited cash-handling errors. The employer did not attend the Labour Court hearing. The worker is unnamed in the published decision.
