In 1995, the Labour Court upheld Kilkenny Corporation’s appeal and recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept that the plumber may drive Corporation transport while carrying out his duties. The decision was signed on 17 February 1995. The dispute concerned whether the plumber or a general operative should drive the van. By the hearing, the general operative had retired, the plumber had been promoted to Assistant Foreman, and the van was being used by the water and sewerage caretaker. The Corporation said it planned to return the van to the plumber; the union maintained that a general operative should drive it.
