In 1994, the Labour Court found that a temporary seasonal worker had been treated in an unacceptable manner after Navan Urban District Council failed to recall him for the season. The Court recommended £250 compensation and a clearer arrangement for recalling temporary staff, to be implemented for the 1995 season. Its decision was signed on 7 December 1994. The worker had been laid off in November 1993 and expected to return in 1994, but the Council recalled a more junior employee instead. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said its member had been unfairly passed over despite a strong work record. The Council said the recalled employee had broader work experience and was more suitable. The Court also recommended that the worker receive favourable consideration for future temporary work.
