In 1993, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's appeal and upheld a recommendation that a worker at Bolands Mills Limited stop retaining social welfare cheques while receiving full sick pay. The decision was dated 28 April 1993. The union argued that keeping the cheques was part of the worker's employment terms and that similar arrangements existed for other workers. Bolands Mills said the worker had agreed to return the cheques and had done so during earlier periods of sick leave. The Court found the Rights Commissioner's recommendation correct and upheld it.
