In 1993, the Labour Court left unchanged a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a worker’s appeal over mileage payments after a change in duties. The decision was dated 19 February 1993. The worker said he expected mileage payments equivalent to at least 300 miles a week to make up a salary shortfall. Calor Teoranta said his employment terms did not guarantee a minimum mileage payment and that he continued to travel substantially in the new role. The Court found that the recommendation did not guarantee a fixed allowance and considered it a potentially equitable solution. It called for mileage to be monitored and reviewed, with the matter open to further consideration if the average fell below 300 miles a week.
