The Labour Court rejected Iarnrod Eireann’s appeal and left in place a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that it pay a worker £200 for the loss of his marking-out allowance. The decision was signed on 21 June 1991. The worker, a trimmer at the Body Maintenance Shop in Inchicore, had received an allowance of about £4 a week for marking-out duties. Iarnrod Eireann argued the allowance was payable only while he performed that work. The Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union said restructuring had led to the loss of the work and accepted the recommendation. The Court found no grounds to alter it.
