Labour Court recommends £100 each for Aer Lingus clerical staff

In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Aer Lingus pay £100 to each of the clerical staff involved in a disturbance-compensation claim at Dublin Airport, varying a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation of £250 each. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said renovation work created difficult conditions, including cold working areas and the removal of walls and ceilings. Aer Lingus said it tried to minimise inconvenience and that the work would improve conditions. The Court said such claims should involve continuous and severe disruption over time and that a formal agreement was needed. It considered the level of inconvenience in this case and recommended £100 each in settlement. The decision was dated 20 March 1991.
