Labour Court upholds trial recommendation for Aer Lingus bar assistant

The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that Aer Lingus Outdoor Catering offer an unnamed casual worker a further trial as a bar assistant. Its decision was signed on 28 September 1990. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought reinstatement as a bar assistant and compensation for lost earnings, arguing the company denied her bar work without just cause. It said she believed she was discriminated against because the other casual bar staff were men. The company said she was suitable as a waitress but not as a bar assistant, and was willing to offer her waitress work. The Court found no grounds to amend the recommendation and upheld it.
