In 1990, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation of £100 per worker after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union appealed over lost overtime at J.A. Wood Limited’s Killarney depot. The decision was signed on 7 June 1990. The union said the appointment of a working foreman reduced overtime earnings for three workers. J.A. Wood Limited said falling sales caused the reduction and the workers had declined an offer of work at a new depot. The Rights Commissioner found the compensation claim for lost earnings failed but recommended £100 per worker because the company had not discussed the foreman’s appointment with the union beforehand. The Labour Court found no grounds to alter that recommendation.
