The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and rejected the Union Of Construction, Allied Trades And Technicians’ appeal against Dublin Port & Docks Board. The decision was signed on 20 June 1988. The recommendation called for acting supervisor duties to be shared equally among qualified workers until a rated chargehand was appointed in 1990. The union argued that a carpenter who had regularly stepped up since 1979 should continue in the role. Dublin Port & Docks Board said rotating acting positions would help assess candidates’ supervisory competence.
