In 1987, the Labour Court left in place a Rights Commissioner's recommendation against conceding Edward Walsh's claim for compensation after he lost regular overtime at Meath Hospital. The appeal decision was signed on 18 January 1987. The worker had worked ten extra overtime hours a week until an automatic boiler system was installed in December 1967. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union argued that the overtime was an integral part of his earnings. Meath Hospital said he had been given other duties and that the claim came eight years after he retired.
