Labour Court upholds day off for Connex worker after Easter shift

The Labour Court affirmed a recommendation that Connex Transport Irl Ltd give an unnamed worker a day off in lieu after he worked into Easter Monday on a night shift beginning on Easter Sunday. The decision was dated 24 April 2006. The Court found a management memo did not reflect established custom and practice and said the day off was reasonable because the memo caused confusion. It also endorsed discussions between the company and the union about which arrangement should apply in future. The recommendation was affirmed on a gratuitous basis, without precedent or prejudice to those discussions.
