Labour Court upholds €4,800 recommendation for driver dismissed by M & J Gleeson & Co

The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that M & J Gleeson & Co pay a full-time driver €4,800 following his dismissal. The decision was dated 16 November 2004. The worker said he had not been spoken to about his behaviour before the day he was dismissed and was unaware of the company’s grievance procedure. The company said it had spoken to him twice about his behaviour. It had not attended the Rights Commissioner hearing, but appealed the recommendation. After considering written and oral submissions, the Labour Court found no reason to alter the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation.
