The Labour Court recommended that Dundalk Town Council accept a conciliation proposal to settle the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers' Union's claim over workers' temporary relocation during refurbishment of the Town Hall and Offices. The recommendation was dated 15 November 2004. The union sought compensation, citing daily inconvenience and concerns about the temporary premises. The Council said compensation was inappropriate and had offered parking cards valued at €150, accepted by other staff but rejected by union members. The proposal provided five parking smart cards for each worker in recognition of their cooperation. In return, workers would continue cooperating and move back to the town hall yard when the refurbishment was complete. The Court recommended accepting the proposal in full and final settlement.
