In 2002, the Labour Court upheld Rte's appeal and overturned a recommendation to restore a worker's personal and doubling allowances. It separately recommended a €5,000 goodwill payment in full and final settlement. The decision was signed on 18 December 2002. The dispute concerned whether the worker could retain the allowances after a 1999 pay agreement. Rte argued the agreement consolidated them into the new pay scales; the union said the worker's case remained unfinished business under agreed procedures. The Court found the agreement consolidated all personal and doubling allowances into the new scales and made no exceptions. It said the payment could not be used as a precedent for other claims under the agreement.
