In 2001, the Labour Court upheld a finding that a worker’s dismissal by Genesis Fine Art Limited was due to genuine redundancy and disallowed his appeal. The decision was dated 23 March 2001. The worker said he had moved from the UK believing his job would be secure. The company said the figurine painting process was too slow and costly, production targets were not met, and the product was not commercially viable. The Court agreed that genuine redundancy was the sole reason for ending his employment and found that the dismissal was not unfair.
