Unnamed teenager loses appeal against murder sentence

By Donal Gilhooly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The unnamed teenager lost his appeal against the severity of his murder sentence at the Court of Appeal on 19 December 2023. Urantsetseg Tserendorj was stabbed on a walkway in Dublin’s IFSC on 20 January 2021.

The three-judge court rejected all grounds challenging the life sentence, which includes a review after 13 years. The court had previously rejected his appeal against conviction.

The appeal argued that the sentence did not adequately reflect his age and that a shorter review period was warranted. The court concluded that the review period imposed fell within the appropriate range.
