Three students’ Dundalk expulsions quashed over alleged fights

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court quashed the expulsions of Margaret Eyong Taku, Wendy Briggs and Christina Igweze on 10 April 2025, after finding the college’s disciplinary process required fresh consideration. The expulsions followed allegations of violent altercations at Dundalk Institute of Technology.

Justice Anthony Barr remitted the matter to a differently constituted appeals committee. He noted the students could miss two years of education if any appeal were lodged.

The expulsions followed four alleged fights, three on campus and one off campus, between 30 and 31 January 2024. The students challenged the sanctions as disproportionate and said the college had not explained why lesser sanctions were not considered.
