This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to life for murdering Urantsetseg Tserendorj at the Central Criminal Court on 20 February 2023.

The sentence is to be reviewed after 13 years. Tserendorj, 49, was stabbed on a walkway between George’s Dock and Custom House Quay in Dublin’s IFSC on 20 January 2021, while walking home from work.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the boy could apply for parole after 12 years, and ordered probation reports leading to a final report on 11 January 2034. The judge said the review system did not prevent a parole application.

The teenager also received concurrent three-year and two-year sentences for five other offences committed that day and for stealing a bicycle. All sentences were backdated to when he entered custody in January 2021.
