Shaun Kelly sentence for dangerous driving set aside
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Shaun Kelly’s four-year sentence for dangerous driving causing death was set aside by the Court of Appeal on 16 November 2015. The case arose from a fatal collision on the road between Clonmany and Buncrana, Co Donegal, in which eight people died.
The court found the sentence, which included two years suspended and a 10-year driving disqualification, was unduly lenient. It held that the sentence represented a substantial departure from what was appropriate and allowed the Director of Public Prosecutions’ appeal.
