Darius Alchimionek’s manslaughter conviction quashed on appeal
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Darius Alchimionek had his manslaughter conviction quashed by the Court of Appeal on 19 February 2019, with the appeal allowed. The conviction concerned the death of John Gorman and an assault causing harm to Adam Gorman after a road collision in Geashill, County Offaly.
The court held that rejecting a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity was unsupported by the evidence and was therefore perverse. Alchimionek had received a nine-year sentence, with three years suspended, and a 40-year driving disqualification, but the judgment records that the guilty verdict had to be quashed.
