Sean Johnston, 22, was sentenced at the Central Criminal Court to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault causing serious harm to a then 16-year-old at Tymon Lane in Tallaght on January 2nd, 2021, and six threats to kill another teenager. The threats included messages and a verbal threat at the Red Cow Luas stop on April 14th, 2021.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt set a 16-year headline sentence for Johnston and reduced it by one quarter for his guilty pleas. The judge said the attack involved a calculated degree of violence and described the victim as lucky to be alive.
