Sean Ducque jailed for life for Dublin murder

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sean Ducque was given a mandatory life sentence for the murder of Kieran Farrelly in Dublin. He also received concurrent sentences for two robberies, which he had admitted. The proceedings were reported on 10 July 2017.

On the night of 26 October 2014, Ducque held up a taxi driver with a sawn-off shotgun and stole cash and his phone. Later that night, he shot Farrelly in the head and body with the same weapon before beating and robbing another man.

Ducque claimed Farrelly had threatened to “punch the head off him” if he did not hand over everything stolen from the taxi driver. He raised a defence of provocation, seeking a verdict of manslaughter. The jury rejected his account and convicted him of murder at the end of June 2017.

In a victim impact statement read out on 10 July 2017, Farrelly’s mother Michelle said her son’s life was taken for nothing and that she would never be able to forgive his killer.
