Sean Ducque was found guilty of murdering Kieran Farrelly. The proceedings were reported on 28 June 2017.
The shooting happened outside the Killarney Court flats in Dublin on 26 October 2014. Ducque admitted shooting Farrelly twice with a shotgun. The court heard that he shot him in the chest, then reloaded and shot him in the head.
Ducque told the jury he had lost control after Farrelly threatened to punch his head off if he did not hand over cash and a mobile phone he had stolen from a taxi driver at gunpoint that night.
Ducque’s former partner gave evidence that contradicted his account. She said he had planned to give Farrelly a hiding for slapping his girlfriend and that she heard Farrelly begging for his life after the first shot.
The jury rejected Ducque’s defence of provocation and found him guilty of murder after deliberating for two hours and 44 minutes. His sentence hearing was due to take place the following month.
