This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Robert Traynor retained his two-and-a-half-year wholly suspended sentence for child abuse images after the Court of Appeal dismissed the DPP appeal on 21 December 2021. Traynor had pleaded guilty to possessing 1,938 images and 183 videos of child pornography and producing 1,650 computer-generated images. He had an address in southwest Dublin and was a former bank computer worker.
The appeal court said the sentence was very lenient but remained within the sentencing judge’s margin of appreciation. It concluded that continued rehabilitation in the community was in society’s interests, taking account of his guilty plea, lack of previous convictions and counselling.
