James Lammon’s appeal against his murder conviction was dismissed by the Court of Appeal in a judgment delivered on 21 December 2021.
Lammon was convicted of murdering Jason Doogue in Athy, County Kildare, on 27 October 2016, after a twelve-day Central Criminal Court trial.
His appeal argued that his trial lawyers had agreed to put edited extracts of a Garda memorandum before the jury without his authority. The Court found that the prosecution proposal had been discussed with Lammon, who understood it and instructed his legal team to accept it.
The Court concluded that Lammon had not shown, on the balance of probabilities, that his lawyers acted contrary to his instructions, and dismissed the appeal.
