By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Robert Traynor received a fully suspended two-and-a-half-year sentence for child abuse images, with the Court of Appeal reserving judgment on 11 November 2021.

Traynor, from southwest Dublin, had pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing 1,938 images and 183 videos of child sexual abuse.

He also admitted producing 1,650 computer-generated images, and the DPP appealed against the non-custodial sentence.

The three-judge appeal court was told the prosecution wanted an element of incarceration, while the defence supported the suspended sentence.
