Paul Richardson gave evidence in a tiger-kidnapping trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 1 February 2018. The case concerned the alleged kidnapping of his family and the robbery of €2.28 million. Richardson said he collapsed after learning that his wife and young sons had been released safely.

He told the trial that armed raiders had taken his family from their Raheny home and instructed him to collect cash from work. After leaving the money at the Anglers Rest in west Dublin, he said he drove erratically, experienced chest pains and eventually stopped the van. He was later taken by ambulance to Mullingar hospital.

Four men had pleaded not guilty to false imprisonment and robbery charges, and the proceedings were ongoing.
