Paul Murphy has pleaded not guilty to helping a criminal gang commit the murder of David Byrne. The proceedings at the Special Criminal Court were reported on 7 November 2022.

Evidence described Murphy’s taxi travelling with other vehicles before the attack and later joining a convoy that went to St Vincent’s GAA grounds in Dublin. The court heard that Murphy used his taxi to take gunmen away from the area after Byrne was shot.

Murphy’s mobile phone had been switched off from 1.20pm to 3pm on the day of the murder. The sergeant said he had been told this was unusual compared with its normal use.
