Jason Bonney was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison for helping the murder of David Byrne at the Special Criminal Court on 12 May 2023.

The court found Bonney and Paul Murphy guilty of participating in or contributing to Byrne’s murder by providing access to vehicles. It found Bonney drove his BMW X5 and collected one of the gunmen after the Regency Hotel shooting.

The court said Bonney’s conduct was intentional, planned and organised, and that he knew a serious crime was planned. It set a ten-year headline sentence before reducing his term for mitigating factors.
