Mihai Avadenei’s drink-driving ruling was overturned by the Court of Appeal on 10 May 2016.
The decision means drink-driving cases delayed by the language ruling can proceed in the District Courts. Avadenei had been charged after a breath test recorded 52 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath, above the 22-microgramme limit.
His solicitor had argued that the breath-test printout was inadmissible because it was supplied only in English, rather than Irish and English. Around 1,400 cases across Ireland had been awaiting the appeal ruling.
