This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Michael Shine was sentenced to four years for 12 indecent assaults and one sexual assault at the Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 25 February 2019. The assaults occurred during medical examinations at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and two private clinics in the town.

Shine, a retired surgeon from Ballsbridge, Dublin, was convicted by a jury earlier that month. The offences involved seven boys over a 20-year period, including six boys aged between 11 and 15 and a 16-year-old boy. Judge Martin Nolan said Shine had abused a position of trust and imposed the four-year sentence, taking account of his age and health problems. His previous convictions for indecent assault were under appeal, according to the report.
