Michael Shine pleaded not guilty to 13 indecent assault charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 5 February 2019. The charges concerned alleged medical examinations at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and two private clinics in Drogheda, County Louth.

During the trial, Shine said a nurse was always present during patient appointments and that he had no memory of the allegations. He told the jury he had “some senile dementia” and denied indecently assaulting or groping any patient.
