Michael Furlong is on trial for the murder of Patrick Connors at the Central Criminal Court. He has pleaded not guilty.
The alleged murder occurred between April 28 and April 29, 2011, at CarraigTúr apartments in Enniscorthy. Furlong said he used either a screwdriver or sword to open a locked sitting-room door, denied locking it himself and said he left Connors on a couch after going to bed.
Detective Garda Martin Brauders told prosecuting counsel Ms Martina Baxter, BL, that a sword was found in the apartments’ rear car park. Furlong said he did not know how it got there and had left it on the flat floor; he also said he could have told ambulance crew to force the door, but Connors had said he was okay.
The proceedings were reported on 11 November 2013. The trial was due to continue before Mr Justice Barry White and a jury, with evidence expected from Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jabbar.
