Service users at Nova in Church Street, Enniscorthy may soon be able to avail at disabled parking bays after it was confirmed the district engineer is to carry out a review of the area.

Currently, the centre has up to 23 adults attending on a daily basis and, according to Councillor Jackser Owens, blue badge parking bays are badly needed outside the premises.

“The service users can’t access the building in the mornings or in the evenings, this is a very important issue,” he said at the September meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC).

While chief executive Eddie Taaffe said he would look into the issue and provide two disabled parking spaces if it was “physically possible”, Cllr Owens chose to raise the issue for a second time with district engineer Neil Dempsey at the Enniscorthy Municipal District (EMD) meeting the following day.

“These bays have to be installed, a bus can’t get in or out there, neither can an ambulance in the case of an emergency,” he said.

On this occasion the news was more promising.

“Church St is in our list for carrying out line-marking works so we can look at installing blue badge spaces there,” said Mr Dempsey. “You do need good weather to install them, but we’ll be visiting that area later this month.”
