Gintaras Jankevicius jailed for 12 years for rape and sexual assault

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Central Criminal Court sentenced Gintaras Jankevicius to 12 years in prison, with the final year suspended, after he pleaded guilty to raping and sexually assaulting a woman and falsely imprisoning her. The sentence is to run consecutively to a three-year sentence for a drugs offence imposed in April 2025. The judge also ordered five years of post-release supervision.

The offences took place at Jankevicius’s former accommodation on October 11, 2022. The court heard that he told the woman he would keep her in his home until she became pregnant. Justice Paul McDermott described the offending as serious and degrading, and said it had been terrifying for the woman. The judge said Jankevicius had shown little genuine remorse or empathy and that reports assessed him as at high risk of reoffending.

The suspended year is subject to conditions, including no contact with the woman, abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and completing offence-focused work.
