This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Marek Puska was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for withholding information from gardaí investigating Ashling Murphy’s murder. His brother Lubomir Puska received the same sentence. Their wives, Viera Gaziova and Jozefina Grundzova, were jailed for two years and one year and nine months respectively for assisting an offender by burning Jozef Puska’s clothes. The four were convicted by a jury after pleading not guilty.

In the Central Criminal Court, Ms Justice Caroline Biggs said the offending was not in the highest category, noting that Jozef Puska was apprehended and convicted and the family’s actions did not prevent that. She considered the defendants’ lack of previous convictions, apologies, later disclosures to gardaí and family circumstances as mitigating factors. The judge also said reports described the women’s subordinate position in Roma culture, and suspended the final six months of each woman’s sentence.
