Man appears before Offaly court on Portlaoise drug possession charge

A MAN accused of drugs offences in Portlaoise was granted bail but must sign in at his local garda station in Dublin three times a week.
Tullamore District Court also heard that Alex Irwin (36), 200 Captains Road, Crumlin, Dublin 12, must stay out of Laois and the town of Portlaoise unless he has court appearances or medical appointments in the latter.
Mr Irwin is accused of possession of cannabis and cannabis resin, plus possession of the same drugs for sale or supply to others, at St Fintan's Field, Dublin Road, Portlaoise on October 6 last. He is also accused of possessing cocaine.
Judge Andrew Cody was told there was no objection to bail and the accused could be remanded on his own bond of €250.
He must sign in at Crumlin Garda Station each Monday, Tuesday and Friday between 9am and 9pm, reside at his address, seek approval for any change of address, be contactable on a mobile phone at all times and remain sober.
Garda Aidan Ryan sought a remand to a later date for DPP directions and a certificate from Forensic Science Ireland in relation to the alleged drugs.
Patrick Martin, solicitor, appeared for Mr Irwin and told the court there was no application for legal aid as yet.
Judge Cody remanded the man on bail to appear at Portlaoise District Court on January 11 next.
