A 77-year-old man has been sentenced to a global term of one year and two months at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault on two girls when they were children. He cannot be named to protect the identities of the victims.
The offences occurred on unknown dates between 1964 and 1965 at a house in Co Dublin. Judge Elma Sheahan said consecutive sentences reflected the seriousness of the offending and the fact there were two victims, and that the sentences were reduced to reflect the man’s youth at the time.
The proceedings were reported on 22 May 2025. The man’s early guilty plea, lack of recent negative attention, youth at the time of the offences and the passage of time were raised in mitigation. Defence counsel Eoghan Cole SC also referred to his client’s long work history, health issues and wish to apologise.
