Alida Kuiken’s one-year sentence for laundering €16,997 suspended in full

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Alida Kuiken received a one-year sentence, suspended in full, for allowing €16,997 in crime proceeds to pass through her bank account in September 2022. She had pleaded guilty to the offence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The court heard that Kuiken transferred the money to another account and sent it by bitcoin to a man she believed was her partner. Gardaí did not believe she had emailed the fraudulent invoice; her plea was accepted on the basis of recklessness.

Kuiken, who had never met the man, said she thought he was a US marine and had been utterly naive. Judge Orla Crowe said she had been subjected to a long period of manipulation, but also described the transfer as suspicious and Kuiken as utterly reckless in her own affairs.
